St. Nicholas Convent

About Project

A bespoke ceramic iconostasis created for the St. Nicholas Convent in the city of Zaporizhzhia. The project is an elegant artistic interpretation of canonical Byzantine style, tailored to complement the architecture of a traditional Ukrainian monastic temple. The richness of the sculpted reliefs—featuring symbolic grapevine and lily motifs—along with deep artistic gilding, enhances the prayerful atmosphere of the convent. Contoured enamel details harmonize beautifully with the textured porcelain surfaces, creating a unified and monumental focal point for the sanctuary.

Expert Commentary

This project was a major milestone for our artisans and engineers, as we were tasked for the first time with integrating complex large-scale high-relief ceramic panels adorned with delicate gold leaf. To achieve the exceptional color depth and flawless purity of the porcelain body, each element underwent a demanding multi-stage triple-firing process in our kilns. We paid meticulous attention to expansion joints and fitting precision: every single block was hand-carved and dry-fitted with millimeter precision. This rigorous process allowed us to achieve a seamless visual flow once the iconostasis was installed within the complex semi-circular apse.
